Upon reaching Shroudbase intent on delivering the Undelivered Letter, we began to hear rumors of some missing children. The other children in town suggested that the missing children had probably gone to stay at the burned-out ruins of a nearby orphanage. Traveling to the orphanage, we discovered that the mistress of the orphanage, Alara, had actually been torturing the children in a cellar below the building. Alan explained that he had heard rumors of such horrible acts, but had not wanted to say anything until such a heinous charge was substantiated.
After searching the area and finding nothing else of interest, the party opted to spend the night, having heard rumors of the moans of some sort of apparition. In retrospect, these were probably the howls of tortured children. While they found nothing during the night, the party spotted something at the edge of the nearby Darkmoon Vale. Closer inspection showed it to be one of the missing children: Jevva. She explained that the rest of the children had been captured by some kobolds and started to lead the party through the forest toward the kobold hideout.
Along the way, the party ran into a hill giant named Cardoblag. The party helped this giant find his missing wedding ring, and in return he allowed them to live. The party was able to loot the corpses of some ogres he had killed.
Jevva continued to lead them toward the Kobold hideout, which turned out to be the lower level of the monastery to Moradin that the party had previously visited during Shroud's Last Hope (Alan has now vowed that the party will follow all future hunches, as he had determined that they would probably find the missing children there days earlier). The lower level of the monastery turned out to be a holy place of Droskar, the Darksmith. Apparently these dwarves had turned toward evil at some point, but now kobolds infest the lair.
The party began slaughtering their way across the level, and have now recovered all but one of the missing children. This final child is believed to be located in the prison on a lower level of the dungeon.
