Upon reaching Shroudbase intent on delivering the letter we found on the corpse of a mailman, we began to hear rumors of some missing children. The other children in town suggested that the missing children had probably gone to stay at the burned-out ruins of a nearby orphanage. Traveling to the orphanage, we discovered that the mistress of the orphanage had actually been torturing the children in a cellar below the building. Alan explained that he had heard rumors of such horrible acts, but had not wanted to say anything until such a heinous charge was substantiated.
After searching the area and finding nothing else of interest, the party opted to spend the night, having heard rumors of the moans of some sort of apparition. In retrospect, these were probably the howls of tortured children.
