Year 30 of the Age of Recovery - Mount Centifus
The cool mountain wind billowed Mygrandin’s cloak, dispersing azure-colored wisps of energy into the night. He teleported alone to this place, the peak of Mount Centifus, but an elderly man in travel-stained clothing awaited him. Mygrandin sighed.

“I know the beginnings and endings of all journeys, Mygrandin Antaloose,” the old traveler said, his green eyes sparkling with life. “I think you are seeing the end, as well. You’ve given up your pendants?”

“All but this one…” Mygrandin winced, as the Travel Pendant of Dira forced its way out of the Restorer’s chest. Travel did not even say goodbye; most of the pendants were against his plan. With a quick phrase and the flick of his fingers, the dirate pendant shot up into the sky, so far up that it would continually miss the surface as it fell back to Mezra.

“I can stop you,” the god threatened, nodding to the staff in Mygrandin’s hand.

“A funny thought, that. You wouldn’t clash with Marco, but you would interfere with me?” he replied.

Mygrandin looked at the short length of wood, metal, and dirate he carried. It was the Godskey, a staff of power whose origin he did not quite understand. Millennia before, it was used by Marco the Enslaver to cloister the world away from the presence of the Dei. Even with Marco gone for 30 years, it still served as the lock to keep the gods and their servants at bay.

I wish we could keep them away. Why force me to this, Lanae?

And yet, Mygrandin was here, the lone spot on Mezra where the Godskey could be destroyed and end the Dei Exsilium.

Mygrandin looked up at the lone god who had not been exiled by Marco’s magic. Fharlanghn was the god of the horizon, the god of journeys.

The god of uselessness, as far as I’m concerned.

The god never directly intervened to thwart the iron grip that Marco held over the world. His priests, however, had been involved in secreting away various members of failed resistances, encouraging people as best they could to rise up and strike off their chains. Not to fight, but to see the world, to yearn for places unseen. Fharlanghn and his priests were not just useless, they actively hindered his efforts during the Marco Wars, encouraging his own followers to “Seek the Horizon.”

“Why are you here, Fharlanghn, if not to stop me?”

“I am a chronicler of Mezra, Master Antaloose. I am here to witness and to record.”

“I think you are worried, that the end of the Dei Exsilium will somehow diminish your role on Mezra, what little it seems to be.”

The god shook his head in disdain. “Your wife is right in this, Mygrandin. A reintroduction of the gods in the lives of Mezrans will bring calm to the world.”

Anger flared in Mygrandin.

“The machinations of the Dei are what allowed Marco to rise to power in the first place! You will meddle. And you will quarrel. The people of this world will suffer as you shrug and shrug again. And you will be off your guard again when Marco returns!” Mygrandin yelled.

A brief moment of confusion appeared on Fharlanghn’s face, a strange expression to see on the face of a god.

“What is this?” Mygrandin asked. “Do you not know?”

“‘Marco the Enslaver, Tyrant of Mezra was slain by Mygrandin Antaloose, the Restorer of Dira, ushering in the Age of Recovery.’ It is Written as Truth in the Chronicles of Mezra.”

“You fool of a god. You don’t know what we did? What we had to do? Let your Chronicles say what they will. This world will know no peace with your brethren's return. I am not here for Mezra. I am here for Lanae!”

Five years ago, Lanae Tence, the keeper of Mygrandin’s heart, left the world of Mezra for the outer planes of existence.

The Dei Exsilium did not stop the egress of those who wished to leave Mezra by magical means. It did prevent their return. It blocked out the servants of the gods, both celestial and infernal. It stopped the gods themselves from intervening in the plights of man. Prayers went unanswered not because the gods were indifferent, but because Marco had shut them out from the world with the Godskey.

For five long years, Mygrandin yearned for the presence of the only thing that brought him happiness when faced with the grim reality of what he he had wrought on the world. They called it the Age of Recovery, but these 30 years had been an Age of Chaos. The world reacted violently to the downfall of Marco, revolting against the very idea of order. To the world, order was synonymous with cruelty, as it was the only law they had ever known. Instead of a world of order ruled over by a tyrant, the world was swept by the chaos of dozens of warring factions.

I’ve tried so hard these past five years, Lanae. I’ve tried to bring peace to our world. I do not agree with you, my love. The Dei are not going to solve our world’s problems, but I cannot bear to be without you any longer.

The god remained quiet. Mygrandin thought him to be plotting.

“Fine then, chronicler. Speak nothing of my selfishness. Feel free to write it. This world does not need to see me as a hero.”

Mygrandin turned his back on the god and peered down the mountainside. His heart sank. Even here, on this island far from the events of the Marco Wars, chaos brewed. Through his truesight, he saw a settlement on the southern coast under attack from a seaborne force. Moving to intervene, Mygrandin drew his spellblade and attempted activating Travel...

“My pendants are gone…” Mygrandin sighed.

The Seven Pendants of Dira had been his constant companions for decades, seven extra voices in his head. They had granted him powers beyond his own mastery of magic, including the ability to safely teleport even when the Dei Exsilium prevented normal magical teleportation. He had given them up, as a part of his plan to appease the powerful entities that would come after him after he shattered the Godskey. They would desire the pendants for their power, for their connection to mystical Dira, land of prophecy.

“Time to be about it then.” Mygrandin determined.

“You don’t die here, Mygrandin Antaloose,” Fharlanghn called. “This is not the end of your journey.”

Mygrandin raised his spellblade, Serethial, above his head. Azure wisps of smoke flowed from the curved crystalline blade, its own colors of lavender and blue glowing in the night. Mygrandin began the dance of the ritual, his body and his blade moving with the grace of a man 30 years younger. The air filled with the smell of ozone as arcane energies flowed into him and his blade. Dirate was said to be nigh indestructible, but tonight he planned to destroy the most powerful dirate artifact ever made.

For hours, he worked the Dawnlight forms he learned in another life, so long ago. He watched the coastal town set ablaze by the invaders, and spared a tear for the lives destroyed below.

They were just here to plunder. Can’t even be bothered to try to conquer, to create something new. Mygrandin smirked. If they don’t leave soon, they will not enjoy any of the loot they gained tonight.

And then it was time to end the Dei Exsilium. The Godskey hovered in front of him, and with its power so great, he could see it attract some of the souls who were freed from their bodies so far away below. The reddish mists glowed as they were consumed by the dirate of the staff.

Mygrandin began the final incantation and held Serethial high above his head, ready to shatter the Godkey. A blur from his right caught his attention, as the aged traveler god moved impossibly fast from where he had sat silently for hours.

And so you meddle… How unexpected, Dei.

Mygrandin spared no thought of his chances of defeating the god, but he swung his spellblade while preparing his mind to unleash the most destructive incantations he knew. Serethial sliced into the god, but not at the angle Mygrandin expected. The god was rushing past him, to his right, not at him. Godsblood sizzled on his spellblade as he looked past Fharlanghn, and saw the god’s true target, an ancient, dozen-armed spellweaver. All twelve hands intricately gesticulated as energy formed in front of the creature and an azure burst of light streaked through the night towards Mygrandin. A calaphrax!

“Finish!” Fharlanghn screamed, as he leaped to intercept the streaking doom, divine blood streaming from his side.

The burst was intercepted by the god and a thunderous avalanche of arcane energy was deflected away from the calaphrax’s target. Mygrandin did not stop to see if Fharlanghn survived the godslayer’s magic. He finished his incantation and swung Serethial with all his might at the Godskey.

The Godskey sliced cleanly in half and its two pieces floated momentarily in front of him. And then it shattered into thousands of pieces, scattering across the mountainside and the rest of the island below. Many pierced Mygrandin clean through and he fell to a knee from the pain.

To his right, the calaphrax was standing back up after it had fallen to the burst of its own energy. Fharlanghn was no where to be seen. The sky itself seemed to shatter and the moonlight turned green as its light was refracted by shards of the end of the Dei Exsilium.

Nothing changed in the alien creature’s expression, but Mygrandin felt the creature’s anger. The thing lacked a mouth, but its “voice”, full of static, appeared in Mygrandin’s mind.

YOU HAVE DOOMED MY KIND, HUMAN. THE DEI WILL HUNT US.

A half-dozen hands went into quick motion and Mygrandin was ensnared in invisible bonds. Mygrandin spoke a single word of magic to free himself, but his casting was easily countered by the calaphrax.

THEY WILL COME FOR YOUR KIND, TOO. IT IS THEIR NATURE.

All hands started gesturing again, and azure energy formed in front of the ancient spellweaver. Mygrandin cast spells to free himself non-stop, but each was thwarted with minimal effort from the calaphrax.

Mygrandin despaired.

“You don’t die here, Mygrandin Antaloose,” Fharlanghn whispered. “This is not the end of your journey.” The god of horizons stepped up next to Mygrandin, smiling broadly. “I feel the eastern wind again. Atroa returns, and with her, renewal for this weary world.”

As the calaphrax neared completion of its casting, a mighty solar and a fiendish balor materialized behind it. The natural enemies each grabbed a half-dozen arms of the spellweaver and pinned it to the ground, its casting interrupted.

All around the mountainside, celestials and fiends materialized. All bore symbols of the many deities who had been exiled by the Dei Exsilium.

Mygrandin’s magical bonds loosened and he wandered eagerly through the extraplanar crowds.

“Where are they? Where is she?” Mygrandin asked. “Where is she!?”

Mygrandin despaired again. He continued moving through the crowd, but none responded to his queries. After a short time, the crowd dispersed in all manners of travel, off to bring the teachings of their masters to the people of Mezra.

Fharlanghn remained, recording what transpired.

“What happened?” Mygrandin muttered, looking to Fharlanghn. "Did they fall?"

Fharlanghn closed the book he wrote in. “The End of All Journeys begins.”

Mygrandin grunted at the god's response. "Useless."

He incanted a spell that he had prepared every day since Lanae had left, a spell that he had never cast the past five years while waiting to destroy the Godskey. Every day, he had resisted joining Lanae in the outer planes of existence.

The arcane energies of Mezra enveloped Mygrandin for the last time, and his body was spirited away to the domains of the Dei.
Astoshttp://chroniclesofmezra.org/index.php/Prophecies_of_DiraProphecies of Dira2014-07-01T15:55:00Z
Summary:

Madal Ervir is a dwarven inquisitor of Fortubo who specializes in hunting down dwarves who have fallen from good. He is overly lean for one of his race, but his face and beard are unmistakenly dwarven. Madal is known for having a very keen nose and is often observed smelling evidence. He is devoted to his god, but has utter disdain for the Church of Fortubo, which he believes is overburdened by hierarchy. Inquisitor Ervir is direct and to the point in his interactions with others, often seen as impolite or down-right rude; he is especially coarse with those who believe to be above him in station. Despite his contempt for his church, he has excellent knowledge of its organization, personalities, and workings and is able to influence it to action if he absolutely needs to. Madal is rarely without an apple in hand and has been known to eat up to twenty in a day; running out of apples is often accompanied by tears.
Description
Gnomes are beings of nature, and Wannherl's appearance does justice to this fact. His emerald green complexion seems that of a younger gnome, with few wrinkles or marks. His wild hazel hair, which is not only thick on his scalp but also covers to a more moderate extent the rest of his body, seems unmanageable, or at least unkempt. His green eyes are large, as well his ears, to take in the nuances of the world around him, and his grin, when he sports it, seems unnaturally large to non-gnomes, sporting pearly-white teeth, used more than once to charm his way to a better deal. About average for a Gnome, he stands a good 3'4” tall, and weighs in at a whopping 41 lbs.

Keeping to his gnomish nature, he is normally seen wearing is favorite hat, a tall fuchsia skotthúfa, with a mustard-yellow tassel and a cobalt tassel-cylinder. He also normally wears a simple white tunic, with a red vest with mustard-yellow trim, as well as brown pants and boots.

Background
Major events in life
June 13, 876 – Born Garneb Janras (First Child, Blessed Emerald) son of Dalflan Tikkdal Faereaus Vanvan Boneskin and Lengar Fentik Addchick Daldina Whisperstone, in Boccorit in the apartment above his parents' alchemy shop.

September 877 – Receives the nickname "Goldbadger" after using his prestidigitation gnome racial ability to repeatedly turn the coat of the family's pet badger from brown to gold.

May 882 – Almost dies from accidental poisoning/international explosion when playing with his mother's alchemy equipment, turns to tending the shop with his father.

June 885 – Enters merchant academy, receives the name Dalbaer (Useful Living)

May 891 – Leaves merchant academy, apprentices under his father.

August 901 – Starts taking part-time classes on magic and magical items at Boccorit.

June 916 – Reaches adulthood, receives the name Wannherl (Virtuous Illusionist), starts his own business as a traveling merchant specializing in magic items.

940-974 – Expands trade to all of Kandor.

962 – Meets and befriends Fripplesnacks Fizzlesticks.

November 974 – Sells off inventory in Shoreside, starts exploring the less well traveled areas of Northern Kandor.

March 993 – Meets Garlen Shadowhonor, priest of Garl Gilttergold in the forests south of Garriton.

993-997 – Stays with Garlen Shadowhonor, learning about Gnomish history.

June 997 – Leaves Garlen Shadowhonor and resumes exploring Northern Kandor.

Birthplace/date and childhood
Boccorit, June 13, 876. Wannherl's childhood was full of curiosity, mischievousness, and exploration. When he was 1, he developed a fascination with turning the family pet, a badger, gold. He soon developed his nickname, Goldbadger, which he would keep for the rest of his life. When he was 5, while playing with his mother's alchemy equipment, he managed to ingest a poisonous concoction that also had tiny delayed explosives, almost killing him, and making him forever wary of his abilities concerning alchemy and very grateful to the clerics of Garl Glittergold, who healed him. After the incident, he decided to help his father at the front of the shop, and was soon enrolled at a merchant's academy. After completing merchant's academy, he apprenticed with is father, and later took classes part time at Boccorit in order to be better prepared to conduct business as a traveling merchant specializing in magical items.

Family, Friends, and Enemies
Wannherl is the only child of Vanvan Boneskin (father) and Daldina Whisperstone (mother). He had never met his grandparents, but heard that they lived somewhere in the wilds of Northern Kandor.

Although he was well-liked in both his merchant's acadamy and Boccorit, he didn't keep in touch with his classmates, most of which have already passed away (he graduated the merchant's acadamy in 891 and left Boccorit in 916)

He made various friends wherever he traded, most noteworthy of which being another traveling merchant Gnome by the name of Fripplesnacks Fizzlesticks.

He also befriended Garl Glittergold priest Garlen Shadowhonor in the time after his merchant days, and stayed with him for a time in the forest south of Garriton.

Wannherl has no specific enemies, but he is not fond of Necromancers, who he thinks are playing with power that should be left to the gods, Enchanters, who he thinks are evil for taking the free will of others, Thieves and Brigands, for stealing from merchants.
Jorem Dutchwood is a retired fence from Paldamon, currently residing Redbridge after receiving a pardon for his crimes. He has the typical wide girth of a successful innkeeper, which in fact was his front during his time in the capital. Jorem is known for his intelligence and keen eye for value. It takes a lot to stir Jorem's passions nowadays, but he has a soft spot for those in need. The retiree likes to spend his time in Redbridge's taverns, speaking jovially with travelers about the news of the realm. Though he no longer receives stolen goods, he knows many of the shadier elements that operate in Northern Kandor. When he gets excited, his dimples crater his cheeks and a gleam can be seen in his eye as if he is recalling a fondly-remembered past.
Description
Background
Initially raised in an integrated halfling/human community, Cinta now resides in Redbridge, if the definition of "resides" can be applied to one such as Cinta. She is constantly traveling, and has spent most of her recent years in Northern Kandor after causing quite a bit of trouble in Mid Kandor, especially in Paldamon.

Her thieving ways began when she dared steal from a bugbear camp near her home town. The bugbears were enraged at the loss of one of their religious artifacts and raided the town. Lives were lost and she was run out of town after she openly bragged about her exploits. She should have learned a lesson that day: keep your mouth shut about the things you steal. It did not stick.

She spent some time in the capital Paldamon trying to learn the ways of the pickpocket, but she was horrible at this. A few close calls with the inquisitors had her abandon this route and she focused on something that was a bit more lucrative: freelance adventuring and occasional larceny. Delving into tombs and dungeons and picking apart the traps became easy for her. She increased her risks by bluffing her way into temples and mercenary camps. Things eventually got too hot and just as her name was being mentioned by the sorts who hire assassins, she fled to the north, where she "settled" in Redbridge.

She left two younger sisters behind in Paldamon: Kamala Dunfoot and Genda Dunfoot. Cinta hoped that they would not follow in her footsteps, at least for Kamala, who was being courted by a halfling merchant before Cinta fled.

Cinta has maintained a lower profile in Northern Kandor, but has gained the unwanted attention of inquisitors again. Nalgard Longhammer, an inquisitor but not a justicar, has apprehended her on several occasions, but the two have become sort of friends. The inquisitors of Wee Jas have more hostile intentions toward her though, as Cinta is suspected of helping prisoners escape from Jasidin dungeons in Shoreside.
Pan in Trouble
Pan and Minos stared into the face of large black dragon without any of the rest of the party nearby. Strangely, the dragon did not swallow them whole right away.

Vorlykslyn:
(growling) Who dares wakes Vorlykslyn the Mad?

Pan Oros:
Hi, Vorlykslyn the Mad! I'm Pan Oros and it was an accident!

Vorlykslyn:
Have you come to harvest my dragon's blood like those others?

Pan Oros:
No, sir!

Vorlykslyn:
I don't believe you.

Pan Oros:
I absolutely have no intention of harvesting any part of you.

The dragon lands roughly 50 feet away from Pan and Minos, blocking the way to the rest of the party.

Vorlykslyn:
Quit flying up there. Come down here and speak to me.

Pan Oros:
How about this? You promise not to attack me and I'll come down. I have no intention of attacking you.

Vorlykslyn:
(booming) THEY CALL ME THE MAD! Stay where you're at, but come to the ground.

Pan Oros begins to descend.

Vorlykslyn:
I thought I told you to stay where you're at!

Pan Oros:
(confused) You said to come to the ground.

Vorlykslyn:
But I said to stay where you're at but come to the ground. And yet, you've come to the ground!

Pan Oros:
Yeah, but…

Vorlykslyn:
I don't understand you! What are you!

Vorlykslyn:
Have you come for my dragon's blood?

Pan Oros:
No, sir!

Pan Oros:
No, sir!

Vorlykslyn:
Why not? Everyone wants my dragon's blood.

Pan Oros:
I didn't know you were in here.

Vorlykslyn:
Those others seemed to so enjoy my blood.

Pan Oros:
We killed them!

Vorlykslyn:
You killed them? Why would you do such a thing?

Pan Oros:
They attacked us!

Vorlykslyn:
Why did they attack you!?

Pan Oros:
I don't know…

Vorlykslyn:
(booming) WHY ARE YOU ATTACKING ME!?

Pan Oros:
I'm not!

Vorlykslyn:
YES YOU ARE!

Pan Oros:
No, I'm doing no such thing!

Vorlykslyn:
You had a fly spell going! I saw it! You are a humanoid; you can't fly!

Pan Oros:
Well, yes… I did.

Vorlykslyn:
You only cast that spell so you could reach me up by the ceiling! You're attacking me!

Pan Oros:
Were you up by the ceiling? Didn't you see me just flying around exploring? I had no idea you were here.

Vorlykslyn:
Why have you awoken me!?

Pan Oros:
Simple curiosity.

Kayrin climbs down the rope and walks towards the dragon.

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
Who are you?

Vorlykslyn:
You dare to pincer attack me? Vorlykslyn the Mad? I'll take you both on with my tail tied behind my back!

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
No one is attacking yet! Are you crazy?

Pan Oros:
Don't say that! No one has any intention of attacking you at all!

Vorlykslyn:
It sure seems to me like you have dragon-slaying armor on! If you're not attacking me, take your armor off!

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
That sure seems like a stupid thing to do in the presence of a large, evil black dragon!

Vorlykslyn:
What! Woah, woah, woah, woah!

Pan Oros:
And don't forget; he's mad too.

Vorlykslyn:
Hey! Don't you call me mad!

Pan Oros:
You called you mad!

Vorlykslyn:
Don't you call me mad, silly!

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
Can we call you crazy? Does the word 'crazy' sit well with you?

Vorlykslyn:
Who in the nine hells are you?

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
I am Kayrin.

Vorlykslyn:
Why are you here? Are you attacking me?

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
We're here because we were investigating this area after it opened up after the recent earthquake. Some Cult of Blood has been operating out of this area.

Vorlykslyn:
I have no idea what you are talking about. What have you brought me?

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
(pulls out some coins) Here is some copper…

Vorlykslyn:
(booming) THAT IS NOT A PEACH PIE!

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
Um… I don't have any peach pie on me.

Vorlykslyn:
THAT IS QUITE UNFORTUNATE, KAYRIN! Because peach pie is delicious.

Vindaloo reaches the bottom of the rope.

Pan Oros:
Do you mind if we just leave? I have no problem with you.

Vorlykslyn:
You can't just leave after you started attacking me!

Pan Oros:
I haven't attacked you at all!

Vorlykslyn:
Sure you have! You were flying around in my lair!

Pan Oros:
I had no idea that this was a dragon's lair!

Vorlykslyn:
Sure, you did! (gestures at the empty floors) Look at all this gold!

Pan Oros:
What gold?

Vorlykslyn:
(booming) HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY HOARD!

Pan Oros:
Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't realize there was gold down here.

Vorlykslyn:
How could you not? It's everywhere!

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
Oh, you are a very smart dragon, aren't you? You've hidden all of your gold, haven't you? That's how we can't see it, but of course, now I understand.

Vorlykslyn:
Are you tiny, crunchy, delicious humanoids blind? My gold is everywhere. It fills this entire lair!

Pan Oros:
It is impressive, yes.

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
Now, I see it.

Vorlykslyn:
How could you not see it before?

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
I'm not sure; there must be a problem with our crazy humanoid eyes.

Vorlykslyn:
Kayrin, do you have ketchup?

Kayrin d'Akatosh:
No… I don't have ketchup…

Vorlykslyn:
I hear that you are tasty with ketchup.

Vindaloo:
(joining the conversation) I have ketchup!

Vorlykslyn:
Egad! What is that!

Vindaloo:
It is I! Vindaloo!

Vorlykslyn:
What! There are three of you attacking me now!?

Vindaloo:
Yes! And I have brought ketchup!

Vorlykslyn:
Please place your ketchup upon Kayrin so that might crunch him up!

Vindaloo attempts to place ketchup upon Kayrin, but the attempt is easily riposted, with ketchup being spread all over Vindaloo.

Vindaloo:
Oh, no! I have ketchuped myself!

Vorlykslyn:
Are you tasty with ketchup?

Vindaloo:
I wouldn't know!

Pan Oros:
Try yourself and find out.

Vindaloo:
Ugh, that's awful. Kayrin, taste me!

Pan Oros:
Sir, do you mind if I start flying again?

Vorlykslyn:
That sounds like you're attacking me.

Pan Oros:
No, I just want to get out of here. I don't really want to be in this hole.

Vorlykslyn:
Hole? This is my lair! THIS IS MY HOARD'S HOME! AND YOU CALL IT A HOLE!?

Pan Oros:
No, no no. The hole in the ceiling!

Vorlykslyn:
There's no hole in the ceiling! My ceiling is perfect.

Pan Oros:
Then where did those people come from to get your blood or whatever?

Vorlykslyn:
What are you talking about?

Pan Oros:
You asked if I was one of the people sent to bleed you and I said no.

Vorlykslyn:
Well, obviously you are, because that's the only people who get in here.

Pan Oros:
I don't think so. I'm in here and I absolutely don't want to take any part of you.

Vorlykslyn:
(quieter) You… You're in here to take my jewelry.

Pan Oros:
No I don't! I don't care about your jewelry!

Vindaloo:
I kinda do.

Vorlykslyn:
You want to take my delicious, delicious diramantine.

Pan Oros:
I have no use for diramantine!

Vindaloo:
Not yet!

Vorlykslyn:
I can see into your soul!

Pan Oros:
If that's the case, then you can see that I have absolutely no use for diramantine!

Vorlykslyn:
You don't care about my hoard. I can see it in your eyes. Your eyes don't glisten at all at the sight of all my gold.

Pan Oros:
They don't!

Vorlykslyn:
But I can see your soul… wants my diramantine!

Pan Oros:
I have no use for diramantine!

Vorlykslyn:
And I have no use for your peach cobblers! I only like peach pies!

Nalgard reaches the bottom of the rope.

Pan Oros:
That's reasonable. Cobblers are more crusty. Do you mind if I go join my friends so that we're not pincering you?

Vorlykslyn:
I absolutely do not agree with that

Pan Oros:
Do you want me to stay where I am at?

Vorlykslyn:
Yes, I do. I don't want you to move at all. I know that you are hiding that pie from me. I can smell it!

Pan Oros:
There might be some up there!

Vorlykslyn:
(noticing Nalgard) WHO IS THAT! Is that a dwarf!?

Vorlykslyn:
So none of you have peach pie?

Pan Oros:
No, unfortunately. There might be some upstairs if you come up with us.

Vorlykslyn:
Well. Start emptying your pockets.

Pan Oros:
I don't have anything in my pockets.

Vorlykslyn:
I will accept gold as tribute.

Pan Oros:
I don't have any.

Vorlykslyn:
You don't? What about those other people?

Pan Oros:
I don't know about them. All I know is that I'm broke. I just got reincarnated.

Vorlykslyn:
HE HAS NO PEACH PIE! EMPTY YOUR POCKETS!

The party stares at the dragon dumbly for a few moments.

Vorlykslyn:
I HAVE ASKED FOR TRIBUTE AND THERE IS NO TRIBUTE ON MY FLOORS! PUT THE GOLD OR THE PEACH PIES ON THE FLOORS!

Pan Oros:
We don't have any but we could come back with peach pies.

Vorlykslyn:
Or you could just empty your golds right now.

Pan Oros:
I don't have any golds.

Vorlykslyn:
Why not?

Pan Oros:
Because I just got reincarnated and it was really expensive. I used to be a human but then I died. I came back as a half-orc.

Vorlykslyn:
What... I don't care about that! I won't gold or peach pie now!

Pan Oros:
(Speaking to Minos) How do you think we should get out of here?

Minos:
You know, fuck you. You haven't talked to me in months.

Pan Oros:
That's not true! We communicate every morning!

Minos:
It has seriously been three months since you've asked me anything except for demanding spells. Where the fuck has the progress been on making me pimp? Where's the Fire Opal of Ignatine?

Pan Oros:
I don't know where to get it!

Minos:
You do to! I saw its location marked on your map! It's labeled right on there as Lair of Aquamaneous!

Pan Oros:
Haven't you heard me fighting with the party convincing people to go there?

Minos:
Pffft. You haven't talked to me in three months. You haven't paid any attention to me since that burned witch back in Garriton. It's been Garriton since you've talked to me. You've been to Boccorit! You've been to Shroeside! You've been to Dalist and you've been in this fucking mountain forever! I heard you talking earlier about teleporting around, "Minos is just a posession of mine. He doesn't count against the number of creatures I will be able to teleport." Fuck you, man! I'm not going to help you with this.

Pan Oros:
You could have piped up at anytime! You just sit there sleeping doing absolutely nothing!

Minos:
Oh, fuck! Absolutely nothing? Fuck you, man. Fuck you.

Minos jumps down from his perch upon Pan's shoulder and walks towards the dangling rope.

Pan Oros:
(failing to grapple Minos) Get back here!

Pan flys after Minos.

Vorlykslyn:
Woah, woah, woah! I didn't say you could move! I said give me tribute!

Pan attempts to move past Vorlykslyn, but is enveloped in a shower of acid as the dragon attacks the party.

The party successfully retreated from Vorlykslyn, though they did donate some tribute to his hoard in the end. Once they made it outside of the Cave of Death, they caught their breath but Minos was still running away from Pan.

Pan flew after him, hoping to reconcile.

Pan Oros:
Minos! Come on back! Where are you going?

Minos:
Hey, fuck you!

Pan Oros:
Hey, come on.

Minos:
You haven't talked to me in months; I don't want to hear it.

Pan Oros:
Look, I'm sorry about that. It's been a really busy time.

Minos:
I live in your pouch! I'm with your 24 hours a day!

Pan Oros:
I can't change what happened, Minos. I will be better in the future. Please come back. Let's work together on this.

Minos:
You know, your only option isn't to just go underwater. I know everything that she said too. You could be infusing me with spells! You could be going and getting fireleaf!

Pan Oros:
I've given you so many spells! We're going to get fireleaf as soon as we can.

Minos:
You haven't done anything at all to make progress on the fireleaf.

Pan Oros:
It's tricky because I have to convince all these other jerkwads to go to. Otherwise, I don't have the power by myself! I need support!

Minos:
Woah, woah, woah. We have the power together. Let's just leave these fuckers.

Pan Oros:
We need someone to stand in front and get hit by things. Have you noticed how many things I haven't been hit by because all those other people are just out there getting hit. I need them. They're necessary.

Minos:
No, you don't.

Pan Oros:
We need sponges.

Minos:
We could have gone off for the fireleaf. We could have gone off to Boccorit to learn spells. You didn't spend shit time in Boccorit! You know what you did in Boccorit!? You fucking enchanted shit instead of copying spells out of your parents' spellbooks.

Pan Oros:
I can't read spellsbooks. You know that. I'm not a wizard.

Minos:
FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOU. You don't have to read spellbooks, just rip the page out and make me my juice. How many apprentice wizards live in Boccorit? How many of them can scribe scrolls?

Pan Oros:
I don't have any money for that!

Minos:
What do you mean you don't have any money!? You've been adventuring for months!

Pan Oros:
Do you remember that part where I died? That cost a lot of money!

Minos:
Do you remember that part before you died? When you had all that money? Just sitting on it?

Pan Oros:
I was saving it so I could by some damn scrolls in the next town we came across that was selling some.

Minos:
You were in fucking Boccorit, the best place for scrolls in Northern Kandor. Why didn't we shake down that fucker that was making the foodwall?

Pan Oros:
Ah, uh... We didn't get around to it.

Minos:
So how do you want to do this? These fuckers don't want to take down Aquamaneous and recover the Fire Opal of Ignatine.

Pan Oros:
I'm working on convincing them!

Minos:
They're all like, "Let's go to the moon!" I've heard that shit about Lunos. I can't breathe on the moon! I've been listening to you all talk about how you're going to breath on the moon. You haven't been including me as a creature!

Pan Oros:
I don't need to count you! We share spells now! We've got all kinds of cool perks now that I'm gaining in power.

Minos:
Holy shit! You've gotten this far in your growth and you still haven't given me the spells I need! Damnit! Why am I bonded to you!

Pan Oros:
I don't know, but you are!

Minos:
Are you going to make sure that I can breath underwater? If you can't share the ability with me, are you going to make sure one of your friends casts a spell that lets me breath? I am not a possession!

Pan Oros:
Yes! Come on, Minos. Let's go. Let's work together.

Minos:
Are you going to start paying attention to me? Are you going to start talking to me?

Pan Oros:
Yes, yes. We'll talk more.

Minos:
What do you think, I'm a spellbook or something?

Pan Oros:
No, you are a valuable companion.

Minos:
Fuck you. I am sentient.

Pan Oros:
Yes, you are.

Pan Oros:
Yes, you did. I asked you again for help later, and you couldn't.

Minos:
Well, that wasn't worth my time. Now, Mossoak, he and I have history.

Pan Oros:
I have to stay alive so I can get you your shit.

Minos:
You haven't done a good job at staying alive so far. What was that fucking shit with that fucking crystal? I thought my bond was going to break and I was going to have to find some other fucking witch. You didn't even talk to me after you died.

Pan Oros:
I didn't get the chance! I was dead!

Minos:
No, I mean after you reincarted into that ugly sack of shit.

Pan Oros:
You know, you're not so pretty yourself.

Minos:
Pffft. I have some of the longest, sexiest pectines of any greensting. Listen, are you going to make a concerted effort to make me more powerful?

Pan Oros:
I am!

Minos:
Are you going to get me the Fire Opal of Ignatine?

Pan Oros:
I sure am! We're going to get the fire opal after this stupid island.

Minos:
Good. We're done here, right?

Pan Oros:
Well, we have to trace down this marker. We're almost done here.

Minos:
What the fuck... Okay, you're sure? That's the next thing we're going to do? So if some 10,000GP potential reward for rescuing some damsel drops into your lap when next you go to Dalist, you're going to skip it?

Pan Oros:
Fuck that damsel!

Pan Oros:
I don't know; the meatshields may have some things to do.

Minos:
What's the plan after we get the fire opal?

Pan Oros:
I start convincing them to go to the mountains.

Minos:
What do you think their answers are going to be?

Pan Oros:
They are going to be like, "Okay!" because we will have already been underwater and nothing can be worse than that.

Minos:
I don't think you understand where fireleaf grows. It is very close to that necromancer's tower.

Pan Oros:
Nothing can be worse than going underwater. Nothing can be worse than that. It's going to be the worst thing we ever do.

Minos:
How are you going to get that oracle to go? He didn't even drop down that dragon hole. How in the world are you going to get him to go underwater.

Pan Oros:
He was thinking about dropping down the hole. We would have pushed him down if we had been able to fight the dragon.

Minos:
He wasn't even attacking you until you came after me. It's your fault that he attacked. (angrily) Why were you even coming after me? YOU TRIED TO GRAB ME! FUCK YOU! DON'T GRA ME EVER! I'M NOT TO BE MANHANDLED BY YOU! DON'T GRAB ME EVER AGAIN!

Pan Oros:
Ah, okay. Come on, let's go. Let's take care of this shit, then get you your powers.

Minos:
Okay, are you sure we are going to Aquamaneous after this Marker thing?

Pan Oros:
Yes, whenever we leave this island, we are going to take care of Aquamaneous before we go back to the mainland.

Minos:
Alright. (climbs back onto Pan's shoulder)

Marker 5-23-52
After a trip back to Dalist, the party spent a few weeks making magic items before heading back towards Mount Centifus. They sought the area of Marker 5-23-52 which they had learned the existence of in What the Earthquake Revealed and discovered a more specific location of from the Oracle of Bones revelations below the Cave of Death. After a few a days searching, the party came upon a red-robed wizard tinkering with something atop a hill. Before anyone could speak to the the man, Vindaloo turned him into a pin cushion. After investigating the body, there were some pieces of evidence that identied the man as the missing sixth wizard from below the Cave of Death.

The wizard was investigating a shiny mirror that was embedded into the earth. Pan and Vindaloo both rushed up to touch the mirror first. Pan won out, and as soon as he touched the mirror, his hand breached its surface and he was able to push the rest of his body through, disappearing from the rest of the party.

{{box|You appear in a dust-filled chamber and a low hum fills your ears. The air is extremely stale, and it's almost hard to breath.
The rest of the party quickly joined Pan and easily dealt with the burning spell-stitched spellweaver skeletons.
Description
Background
Kayrin d'Akatosh was born to a young couple in the small trading village of Kannispost, located within the Nomandi Mountains. The village sat alongside one of the more commonly established routes through the Nomandi Mountains, and supported itself on providing supplies to caravans.

When he was eight, a war-band of Orcs descended upon the town. His father was a guardsman, and was one of the first villagers to fall to the Orc savages. His mother hid him away beneath a false floor in their house, but was unable to save herself before Orc subduers captured her and had her sectioned off with the rest of the spoils. The sounds of battle faded, and Kayrin waited for the sounds outside to end. Before they did though, the Orc Leader entered the room, alongside a middle aged human. The human seemed concerned with any survivors, constantly questioning the Orc's diligence in rooting out all remaining villagers. The Orc reassured him none were spared, and the two left after another cursory search of the house revealed nothing.

After the war-band left, Kayrin wandered through the back trails of the Nomandi Mountains before a band of nomads found him. He journeyed with them for a time before they reached Oclaut, where Brother Antitus took him in to the Pelorite orphanage. Brother Antitus took what time he could to instruct Kayrin in the teachings of Pelor and the Code of the Paladin. The Order of Light's Council fascinated young Kayrin, attracted to an organization whose stated goals included protecting the border towns in the Nomandi Mountains. With Antitus' help, he soon became a Squire in the order.

The structure of paladin training suited Kayrin, and he flourished in the order. The toughness instilled in him from his rough and tumble childhood gave him an edge over the softer trainees. He managed to keep a reign on the anger he felt over his parents' deaths, and each passing day he grew closer to serving justice to the barbarians that destroyed his family.

One day an ally of the Order was scheduled to visit. A hero amongst the people, renowned for safeguarding the Kandor borders and putting to the sword a great host of savage races, Lord Kaphis Tyrel was a legend amongst the trainees. The excitement of meeting a hero soon fled as Kayrin recognized the man from the village raid so many years ago. After recovering from the shock, Kayrin sought guidance from Pelor, but was unable to focus through his rage. That night he approached Kaphis and smote him with the full fury of his power. The blow, though grievous was not mortal, and before he could take another strike, he was beset by the Lord's companions, who pummeled Kayrin unconscious.

When he awoke, Kayrin was in chains underground in a dank dungeon. After some time he was approached by Brother Antitus and Lord Tyrel. When Kayrin tried to convince Antitus of Kaphis' sins, the Paladin accused him of madness. His deeds against the savages would be proof enough, but beyond that an entire regiment of paladins could detect no wrong doing, which was truly damning evidence. Kaphis showed Kayrin mercy by sparing him the gallows, and soon the pair left him to rot in the dungeons.

When Kayrin next awoke, he was in the company of a large wolf that took the shape of a wolf-man. It's name was Heravain in the common tongue, an archon in service to Heironious. It reassured the young paladin that he had not gone mad, and that Lord Tyrel had deceived the Order of Light's Council. Finally he offered Kayrin a deal: Serve his Lord and Swear an Oath of Vengeance against the Tyrels, and he would help him follow through on said oath.

Kayrin agreed, and with a powerful swing from the hound's greatsword, was free of his bonds. Before leaving, Heravain told Kayrin to spend what time he had growing stronger, so he would be useful when the time came to strike down his foe. With that, the hound teleported away, leaving Kayrin on his own to escape. Using his modest skill in stealth he succeeded in breaking out of the encampment and soon found himself back at the site of his old village, now reestablished as a trading post. There he met an old monk named Lexan, who seemed to be waiting for him. Together they joined up with a nomadic monastery, who Kayrin spent time training with. After a year and a half of intense training, a message arrived from Heravain instructing Kayrin to meet him in Dalist. He promptly bid farewell to Lexan and the Nomandi Monks, who offered him what coin they could spare along with an Ornate Magical Nine-Rings Sword. A brief stop in New Kannisport allowed him to outfit himself with some equipment and a mount, and from there he began the voyage east to Shoreside.
Leaving Anvilrock
Initial attempts at leaving Anvilrock failed, as the various exit tunnels were still collapsed. The party set about helping to clear the tunnels and left Anvilrock as soon as the way was clear, ignoring the fact that there were still trapped dwarves in the vicinity. Once the party saw the sun again, they gathered up their mounts and headed off towards Streamwind.

Bomgar the Barbarian
As the party traveled close to the edge of the Kharadin Woods, loud sobbing could be heard from within. Upon investigation, the party came upon an overly-muscled wild elf who wielded a monstrously large greatsword. The elvish speakers in the group spoke with him at length. He named himself as Bomgar the Barbarian, a recently deposed bandit leader (though he would not know what the word "deposed" meant, as he was quite simple of mind). It took some effort to get him to calm down, but between pep talk and drug pushing, Pan Oros convinced Bomgar that he should head back to the bandit group and reclaim the leadership. Bomgar also learned that there is a difference between humans and lumberjacks and that he would take this into consideration during future banditry. He also was given enough courage to seek out Clarie Windspeaker and tell her how he feels for her.

Despite Jalfrezi's best efforts to get the party to fight the barbarian wild elf (to steal his flaming sword), Bomgar left the party peacefully.

The Streamwind Situation
The party arrived to find Streamwind in various states of rubble and reconstruction. The residents were sullen, ill-tempered, and lacking the joy for life normally exhibited by elves. Heimdalsgate led the party in seeking out Orack Reieeg. He was not able to get any help from the local population, who simply shook their heads and shambled on, but after some hours of searching Heimdalsgate came upon a very drunk Orack Reieeg. After pestering the poor drunk for some time, he became enraged and brought down a flamestrike upon the approaching Rickard Hill. As the party quickly restrained the man, the villagers converged on the conflict and attacked the party with improvised weapons. The lawful good paladin Rickard Hill suggested that Pan Oros vomit a swarm of insects upon the villagers, but the witch declined to kill the poor and downtrodden crowd who were simply trying to defend a friend against a group of strangers.

The fight was broken up as a dozen riders from the Garriton garrison charged into town. As the men came into view of the elves, they simply stopped their struggle against the party and stepped away without emotion. The riders stopped short of the fight as their leader shouted, "Stop this disorder immediately!"

Rickard let Orack get up and the oracle complained bitterly about the party breaking his booze jug (he had actually smashed it over Rickard's head during the struggle). He requested Rigg Alsman, the leader of the Garriton men, to take the party into custody. He refused while calling the oracle a "blind old fool". Rigg demanded that the party disperse. As they did, he dismounted, and grabbed Orack, dragging him to a nearby hut.

Heimdalsgate waited for three hours while Rigg and Orack were inside the hut. During this time, the rest of the party spoke with some wounded elves who came into town. Pan Oros was able to speak with one who talked of some of the motives involved in the struggle between the humans of Kandor and the wild elves of the Kharadin Woods. The wild elf said it was simply an issue of trees and land. The humans wanted the trees but the wild elves wanted them to stay the ground. It had escalated from there to raids on lumber camps, assassinations of mayors, and desires of genocide.

Eventually, Orack was released from the hut and was followed by the party. Exasperated, Orack demanded what they wanted. Heimdalsgate stepped forward and professed his desire to learn the mysteries of life. Orack simply told him to experience The First Dawn and, in doing so, learn the mystery of life. Orack claimed that he personally experienced The First Dawn, the time when life began. After some convincing, Orack agreed to reveal how Heimdalsgate could experience The First Dawn. As part of the process to gain attunement, Heimdalsgate was requested to to manipulate the fortunes of a couple hundred enemies and heal a moderate amount of the wounds of his allies through his life link. Additionally, he was required to obtain a shard of the Godskey and a shard of a falling star. When asked where he could obtain these items, Orack mentioned that Mount Centifus was where the Godskey was shattered, but simply stared at Lunos, Mezra's second moon, when asked about a shard of a falling star.

After leaving Orack to his drinking, the party wandered around the village, gathering information about the Arcane Focus of Control. They healed and fed the wounded elves as they went, and their generosity produced an elf that was willing to sneak out of town and guide the party through Kharadin Woods to the Arcane Focus of Control.

Wherein the Party Nonchalantly Kills Loyal Soldiers of Kandor
A couple days after the party set out from Streamwind, they were stopped by a patrol of the Kandori military. They demanded the party turn over the wild elves or be attacked. With Rickard declaring, "An unjust law is no law at all!" the party attacked. They killed all of the soldiers and left their bodies behind. The bodies were savaged by carrion eaters, but a few days later, Rigg Alsman was able to recover the bodies and gather some clues about the soldiers' murderers.

The Arcane Focus of Control
On the morning of May 11, the guide warned the party that the area they were entering was very dangerous and to remain alert. Shortly before noon, the party came upon a clearing. Within the center of the clearing was a simple stone altar, sitting upon a circle of cobblestones.

Onward to Anvilrock
After securing a reason to travel to Anvilrock (drug smuggling), the party left Oclaut behind on a trek into the north. The overland trip was marked by only a single event: the discovery of a wounded ranger who was a member of The Arrow's Wrath, a group dedicated to hunting powerful, rare, or unique creatures. Upon being healed, he revealed that he was on the hunt for an old and powerful dire boar named Onetusk, but she had gotten the upper hand on him during the hunt. He noted that Onetusk always plays with her prey before killing them and that he thought she would be back any moment to finish him off. Sure enough, a horrid pig-squeel filled the air. As the party rose to do battle, the ranger warned them about her savagery. Within twelve seconds, the beast was seduced and slain. No longer would Onetusk hunt the countryside.

Obviously impessed by the party's skill, the ranger invited them to join his organization. He mentioned that they had representatives in Redbridge and Garriton.

The party arrived at the surface entrance that led to Anvilrock without further event.

However, halfway through the tunnels to Anvilrock proper, an earthquake struck, collapsing many of the tunnels. The party found an alternative way to Anvilrock, but it led through abandoned mines and unpatrolled tunnels. They were beset by various foes, including water elementals, fungal crawlers, duergar, and a drider.
Onward to Oclaut
Leaving Mossoak and the druidic ruins behind, the party headed northerly towards Oclaut, a mining town. During the first day of their travel, another earthquake hit Northern Kandor. While the ground was shaking, the party noticed a strange black chain leading off to the sky in distance. It seemed to attach to an island floating in the air. As the earthquake settled down, the island and chain vanished before their eyes. The party took note of the floating island's location, but continued heading towards Oclaut.

During the second day of the trip, the party stumbled upon a large warband of Splittongue Clan orcs. The warband pursued the party as they fled deep into the Nomandi Mountains to the east. The party eventually shook the pursuers.

SplittongueOrcsAttack.png

During their flight, the party stumbled upon some steps carved into a cliffside. Climbing the steps, they observed a closed stone door. After some effort to open the stuck door, the sun illuminated the room beyond to reveal a translucent, floating, vaguely humanoid-shaped creature. It was reddish-pink in hue and glowed slightly. It rose its head to look at the party, but simply bobbed slowly in place. At first, the party slammed the door shut without stepping into the room, but curiosity eventually guided them several party members into the room. The incorporeal creature became hostile, and sucked energy from Jalfrezi before the party retreated. The creature did not pursue the fleeing party members, and the party decided not to attempt further exploration.

SpiritCaveDare.png
The party continued towards Oclaut, finally reaching the River Drearian. A quick haggle with a ferryman got the group across the river and they soon arrived in Oclaut.
Afi Heitani guffawed.

Afi Heitani:
That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. You amuse me. What is your name?

Jalfrezi:
Jalfrezi.

Afi Heitani:
Well. I am in skilled in control myself. I agree with you about the ways of many flashy wizards. You've come here to learn?

Jalfrezi:
I have.

Afi Heitani:
Hmm... It has been a long time since I have taken on an apprentice. Is that what you wish to be? (Derisively) An apprentice?

Jalfrezi:
I... uh... wish to learn from you so that I might be more than an apprentice.

Afi Heitani:
Ah! Yes! Someone who is looking out for himself. I make apprentices wipe up the dung heaps. I make apprentices go out and write contracts. I make apprentices do my shitwork. It sounds to me like you wish to learn.

Jalfrezi:
I do wish to learn.

Afi Heitani:
I think you'll understand that my methods of teaching are a little bit different than what you may be used to in Boccorit. I don't believe in sending a student to the library where he must read books for eight hours straight. I do not believe for you do to controlled experiment after controlled experiment on alchemical substances where you never see the light of day. My believe is that you learn best and gain the most experience when you are out in the field.

Jalfrezi:
I am fond of experience. Your methods of teaching sound awfully refreshing. I tire of reading in the library of Boccorit.

Afi Heitani:
Tell me of your experience thus far.

Jalfrezi:
I have lived most of my ilfe in Boccorit and done much studying there, but recently I have joined an adventuring party and we have faced many obstacles.

Afi Heitani:
Such as? I don't care what they did. I'm sure they hack and slash shit and heal wounds and fucknot. I want to know what you have done to control the battlefield, to control the foes you faced.

Jalfrezi:
One really cool think I can do. You know magic missle, right?

Afi Heitani:
Yes, I am familiar with that crude force bolt.

Jalfrezi:
Ah, yes. It is a crude spell. But I am able to trip things with it. I am also able to call stones from the very air itself to make the terrain difficult for my foes to navigate.

Afi Heitani:
Well, do you have any other wizardly aspiratations?

Jalfrezi:
Well, yes. I do wish to focus on earth-based magics. But I really just want to get better at control.

Afi Heitani:
So you want to learn under me?

Jalfrezi:
I do.

Afi Heitani:
Okay, then. Well, learning isn't free. I require my students to go out into the field, sometimes into life-threatening fields. Are you sure you wish to study under me?

Jalfrezi:
Yes, I do.

Afi Heitani:
Alright. I'm going to start you off with three tasks. After you have finished these three tasks, I want you to come back to me and we can discuss your future. Before I speak on these tasks, we must discuss tuition. For me to tell you what I am about to tell you, I require a certain amount of commitment. I don't need your money, but I find a good amount of money show commitment to finish things. Two of things that I'm about to share with you, very few people know. Your first payment of tuition will be 1000GP.

Jalfrezi agreed to pay the tuition and a servant carried off the gold.

Afi Heitani:
Okay, the first thing I want to tell you. If you are to be a master controller, you really need constant experience. As you continue your experiences to control both people and the battlefield around you, things will become easier for you, okay? So my first task for you is a simple one, one that you have been doing already. I want you to go out and control things. Show me that you have experience in controlling things, I want you to apply two hundred status ailments to creatures. Now, knocking things unconscious doesn't count, however knocking things prone does count as long as they were knocked prone because they were knocked unconscious. You can make things dazed, you can make things nauseated, you can make things sickened, you can make things prone. This is your primary focus. They have to be done in the experience of battle. I don't want you to go up to an innocent horse and start abusing the crap out of it. This has to be real experience. I don't want you do be a Boccorit asshole standing at a spellrange flinging spells with no sense of danger. For you second task, I'm going to share with you a secret. There is a spell that cannot be scribed into any spellbook. There is a spell that cannot be written to any scroll. There is a spell that can only be memorized from the walls it is written upon in some ruins beneath Mount Killris. I want you to go there and memorize this spell. You need to bring that spell back to me with it in your memory without casting it. I am going to give you a map and this map will guide you to the entrance to the ruins.

Jalfrezi:
Do you know what circle the spell is from?

Afi Heitani:
It is of the third circle. If you cast the spell before you get back to me, you will have to return to Mount Killris and rememorize it from the spellwall. Thirdly, there are certain wild elves in the Kharadin Woods that do pursue the arcane. I want you to go to the Kharadin Woods, to a village named Streamwind. Ask the wild elves there about the Arcane Focus of Control and they will guide you to a site far to the northeast of their village. There you will be able to focus, to attune yourself to the site. Now, you may be overcome with certain feelings. You need to fucking push those feelings down. You need to kill those feelings. When you come back to me, I will be able to tell if you are attuned. If you do not wish to return to me after you have become attuned, I will understand, and I will keep your tuition as forfeit. But if you are able to push those feelings down and come back to me after you have completed these three experiences, then I will be able to guide you into becoming a master controller.

Jalfrezi:
That sounds like a lot to do.

Afi Heitani:
I do need to tell you, if you reveal the location of the spellwall or if you tell anyone about what happens when you become attuned to the the Arcane Focus of Control, I have ways of knowing and I have ways of dealing with that transgression. DO NOT reveal the location of the spellwall. DO NOT reveal the results of becoming attuned. It is fine if your hack and slashy companions know where the ruins are, but do not tell them the purpose for going there. Tell them that is is for HACKING STUFF, and LOOTING SHIT, and KILLING THINGS, and HEALING WOUNDS. Do you have any questions about this course of instruction?

Jalfrezi:
No, I do not. It seems straightforward enough.

Afi Heitani:
Do not return to me until the experiences are complete.

Astoshttp://chroniclesofmezra.org/index.php/MossoakMossoak2011-08-29T02:51:32Z
Summary:

Into the Wilderness
The party decided to scrap its plans for a trip to Shoreside and set off for the Druidic Ruins, whose location they had purchased from Fripplesnacks Fizzlesticks. Dunruk Sunaxe took leave from his duties at the Temple of Sun's Dawn to accompany the party.

Along the way, rain and fog stymied their progress, and during one particularly bad night, Illia heard the sobbing of a child while on watch. She woke Dunruk Sunaxe and the two of them left camp to investigate. They couldn't seem to get closer to the sobbing and child and after a time, they realized that they had lost track of the direction back to camp and that they had been lured away. They rushed as quickly as they could to find the camp, but when they arrived, the camp had been ransacked while the rest of the party slept peacefully. Numerous foodstuffs and gear had been taken, but Jalfrezi had lost a few of his precious gemstones.

The party immediately broke camp, as Illia was able to find and follow the human tracks of the thief. By dawn, they had discovered the destination of the thief, an old, ruined dwarven guard post. Upon opening the entrance, they were beset by leucrottas (who had mimicked the voice of the child) and their master, a wizard.

FightWithLertol.png

Upon defeating the thief and his pets, the party recovered their gear and baubles along with some of the thief's prior victims' treasures. Amongst the ill-gotten items, the party discovered numerous opened pieces of correspondence. One of them was a letter that mentioned Laduguer's Bane, the adventuring party that Jalfrezi's father, Gun, is currently traveling with. It was addressed to a Rufin Ferezi in Oclaut and dated as being written in mid-January.

Jalfrezi, concerned for his father, discussed the letter with the party, and it was decided to travel to Oclaut after visiting the druidic ruins.

The Druidic Ruins
Upon arriving at the druidic ruins, the party observed a panther reseting atop a megalith. It watched the party, but didn't react as they milled about he ruins. In the center of the circle of megaliths, a small pit led down into a stone cavern. As the party tried to enter the pit, the panther leapt from atop the great stone and shapeshifted in mid-air to change into its natural form: a celestial treant. He introduced himself as Mossoak, the leader of The Circle, a good-aligned druidic circle tending to northwestern Loranon.

When questioned, Mossoak revealed that he is not able to enter the caverns below because of some evil-feyish presence. He noted that they were used long ago by evil druids to sacrifice people of civilization. He sent a brownie named Fripizle into the cavern to find out what was going on. It has been over a week since the brownie was sent in, and the party convinced Mossoak that maybe something has happened to him. Mossoak agreed that this could be a possibility and allowed the party to go below to find out. The celestial oak treant cryptically told the party to only eat one leaf of kale each.

The party explored the caverns and discovered that they were infested with twigjacks, evil fey dedicated to stopping the encroachment of civilization on the wild.

TwigJackFight.png

The party discovered the altar where the civilized-humanoid sacrifices were done, but it was guarded by a large twigjack. Within the twigjack's brambles, the brownie Fripizle was imprisoned. Upon defeating the twigjack, the brownie was freed and swayed as if about to faint. Upon seeing Pan, the brownie grew excited and happily skipped towards him. Just as the brownie got close, Minos jumped from Pan's sleeve landing on the brownie's chest, forcing the brownie to fall on his back. As the brownie fell, Minos stabbed him repeatedly with his stinger. After killing the brownie, Minos calmly walked back up Pan's clothing and nestled back into his sleeve.

The party ate of the kale and were blessed with a druidic infusion of power, gaining various abilities.

Upon reaching the surface, Pan attempted to deceive Mossoak about what happened to Fripizle, but Mossoak pushed for more details. Pan revealed that Minos attacked the brownie. As Minos revealed himself from underneath Pan's sleeve, Mossoak grew angry in recognition of the scorpion. With great speed, he lunged for the party, but just as he was about to commence his attack, a great wall of fire erupted between him and the party. The heat of the flame shriveled Mossoak's leaves and charred some of his branches.

"This isn't over, Minos!" Mossoak screamed, as he wildshaped into a panther and fled.
Blessing of the Sunkissed Fields
After the failed kobold ambush, the party took refuge at a farmer's house a couple hours away. They confirmed with the farmer that he hadn't seen any kobolds in the area, but he made mention that his neighbors said that had seen some with their own eyes.

Clearing out the Kobolds
Leaving the hospitable farmer behind, the party set out again escorting Sebastian Leolite and other clergy members while they blessed various fields. In the late afternoon, they came upon a burned down farm house and barn. Upon searching the still smoldering ruine, Illia was able to find the tracks of a large kobold party who were dragging heavy objects with them. No human bodies were found in the remains.

The party decided to hunt down the kobolds and see if they could find any living family members of the raided farm. Sebastian Leolite chose not to go along, as he did not think that it would be safe for Sansa Berrit, a young acolyte who was with the group. The head priest did implore the party to hunt the kobolds while he took Sansa Berrit back to Redbridge. Dunruk Sunaxe continued on with the party.

Illia successfully led the party to the kobold warren. The area was heavily modified by the recent earthquake, and the party surmised that it was possible the earthquake brought the kobolds to the surface. The entrance was guarded by several kobolds who successfully led the the party into a trap, a theme which would continue throughout the foray into the kobold warren.

Return to Redbridge
After clearing out the kobold threat, the party returned to Redbridge. Dunruk Sunaxe had a conversation with Rickard about his future endeavors. Upon hearing that Rickard was commmitted to advancing along the paladin path, he suggested that Rickard pay a visit to Vaidol Merade in Shoreside.

The party agreed that a visit to Shoreside was appropriate and discussed travel plans.
Astoshttp://chroniclesofmezra.org/index.php/Illia_ViranIllia Viran2011-08-18T22:41:15Z
Summary:

Therthyra is 4’7” and 120 lbs. She has brown eyes and reddish brown hair. Her pride and joy is her 2’ 3 ½” long beard. This glorious mane erupts from Therthyra’s chin (and upper lip due to her handlebar moustache) and stretches almost to her knees. The long locks are braided at the sides and the middle. When Therthyra feels the need to move free of her mass of hair she tucks her beard into her belt.

Background
Therthyra Brutebeard hails from the Stonegrinder Clan which resides in Anvilrock. At a young age she decided to join the effort to fight off the dangers of the Underdark and protect her community. Strength was not Therthyra’s strong suit, so she joined the ranks of Dwarf trained rogues.

She excelled at her training and soon became an expert in dungeoneering, trap finding/making, and using her dwarven waraxe to hit the extra squishy parts of her enemies. Therthyra also developed a strong bond with the caves in which she lived.

After training and spending a few years killing orcs and goblins, Therthyra decided that she must travel abroad to better develop her skills. The large population of human soldiers in Northern Kandor have acclimated Therythyra to the presence of another race so she is confidant in her abilities to travel abroad.

Therthyra have one core belief in life- dwarves are the idea race. If anyone argues this with her, she will reply with the most sound and logical argument possible:
Description
Middle aged, weak, and with a bit of a paunch, Pan has blue eyes and brown hair.

Background
Pan Oros lacks discipline.

Growing up in the magic-laden town of Boccorit, he had always dreamed of becoming a wizard. It wasn’t the hours of study or the voluminous knowledge of the wizards that drew him, though, but the power to change the world with a flick of the wrist and a few incoherent mutterings. The ability of such frail beings to topple mountains and boil seas was an intoxicating brew.

His mother and father were both wizards, and it was assumed that he would follow in their footsteps. He was groomed from a young age in the ways of magic, but try as they might, his parents could never seem to instill the necessary strength of will in their son. He was talented enough, but reckless; fiercely intelligent, but, as is the case for most young men, lacking in wisdom.

Experience is a harsh mistress.

In his early, formative years, he was able to get by on his wits alone. As all the other students learned the good studying habits that would take them far as wizards, Pan would daydream about fighting Bluespawn Godslayers or tossing fireballs into a crowd of orcs. He seemed to relish in rubbing his natural talent in the faces of the other students.

By the time he was a young adult, Pan was absolutely sick of the lectures from his tutors about wasted talent. He still couldn’t be bothered to study, but it became more difficult to ad lib his way through his classes. Somehow, he just knew that everything would work out all right in the end. As intelligent as he was, how could it not?

Sadly, Pan was wrong. When it was time to become an apprentice, he learned he’d made some critical mistakes. No one would take him on. He had the raw talent for wizardry, but having avoided learning even basic meditation or studying skills, he was completely unfit for a scholarly life. After a year of applying to various schools and independent mages, Pan finally gave up. His dream of being a wizard was dead.

Despondent, Pan started picking up odd jobs around town. He was clever enough to tinker with little things, make things work, but the jobs were not fulfilling. Every night he would come home weary, frustrated, disgusted with the way things turned out. Things needed to change or he knew he would wither up and die.

Pan decided to strike out on his own and see the region. He started to wander from town to town, offering his skills as a tinker as trade for food or a good night's sleep. Somehow, despite the menial tasks presented him, he was able to put on a good face for those he met, and made friends in every town he visited.

Still, he longed for more. For magic. For power!

One night as he slept next to a campfire on the side of the road, Pan felt a tickle on his chest. He stirred slightly, and the tickle only intensified. Pan blearily opened his eyes, acknowledged what appeared to be a small scorpion, realized he must be dreaming, and went back to sleep. After a minute, the tickle started again, more insistently. Pan's eyes shot open with the realization that he was not dreaming. He jumped to his feet and did the ever-awkward "I've got a scorpion on me! Get it off get it off get it off get it off get it off get it off!" dance.

The scorpion grew tired of this silliness after a few minutes, and then surprised them both by sighing and saying "Are you quite finished?"

Pan stopped, confused. "You can talk?"

The scorpion thought about this for a minute, before replying "Wait, YOU can talk?"

Their mutual confusion went on for a few minutes until the scorpion, once again tired of waiting for Pan to catch on to the reality of the situation, stung him soundly on the chest. Not possessing the firmest of constitutions, Pan immediately passed out from the pain.

Pan awoke in a daze a few hours later, his chest throbbing. The first thing he noticed was a scorpion sitting on his face, trying to look him in the eye. He was about to scream when the scorpion wiggled its tail menacingly indicating this might not be the best idea.

"Ok, we got off to a bad start," said the scorpion, "I realize now that you might not be the shiniest tool in the shed, so let me try and explain things to you. Apparently, both of us can talk. I'm sure this is as much a surprise to you as it is to me. Anyway, I've been sent here by my patron to tell you that power is not out of your reach. Come with me and accept him as your patron as well, and the mysteries of the universe will be revealed to you."

"What, all of them?" snarked Pan, recovering some of his composure.

The scorpion contemplated stinging him again, perhaps on the face this time, then decided that would just waste too much time with the screaming and the fainting and the waiting around for this idiot to open his eyes again. "Look, are you going to come with me or not?"

"Sure, fine, I'll follow the talking bug off into the forest on a promise of power and that the mysteries of the universe will be revealed," Pan shot back, slowly realizing that he was serious. The scorpion waited for Pan to climb to his feet, then climbed up on his shoulder and guided him into the woods.

For the next three days they traveled, stopping only to eat and sleep, deeper and deeper into the forest. Near dusk on the third day, the scorpion led Pan into a clearing. Several scruffy looking humans and elves were building a large pyre in the center. About 10 feet back from the pyre was a log on its side, conveniently like a bench. The scorpion prodded Pan to have a seat and wait.

The scruffy looking group, who on closer inspection appeared to be druids, finished building the pyre, set it alight, then filed out of the clearing. Pan waited, watching the flames, wondering just what he was doing out here in the middle of nowhere next to a large fire. The sun slowly set and the moon came out, though he could barely see the stars past the light of the fire in front of him.

Around what must have been 1 in the morning, 3 corpse-thin women covered in rags and fetishes appeared at the edges of the clearing and walked to the center, creating a circle around the fire. Never even acknowledging his existence, they began chanting rhythmically in a language he could not identify and throwing offerings and trinkets into the fire. The fire grew taller, so intense it was almost burning Pan's face from his spot on the log. He raised his hand to shield his eyes as it gained a magical intensity.

After a few more minutes, the chant hit a crescendo and the fire whooshed out suddenly, smoke filling the clearing. A fiery being appeared above the ruins of the pyre, too bright to make out clearly.

"Minos, you have done well!" the being said, looking at the scorpion. The scorpion did its best to bow in return.

The being turned to look at Pan. Somehow he could feel it looking straight into his soul. "Pan Oros!" the being seemed to bellow, "I have summoned you here because I know you long for power! You have failed in the ways of men, but all is not lost. You can still be salvaged to serve my purposes. Join my coven this night, accept me as your patron, and I will grant you the power you so desire."

Awestruck, it took Pan some time to answer. "I will do as you ask. But please, tell me your name?"

The being laughed a deep, not quite menacing laugh, and disappeared. Even as the laugh echoed off the trees, the hags moved to join Pan, bringing him into the circle and beginning a ritual that seemed right, though he did not fully understand it.

Pan awoke around noon with a pounding headache and a new sensation...a sensation of power. The hags were gone, but the scorpion, apparently called Minos, remained.

"Well, I guess I'm stuck with you," said Minos, "Hurry up then, we'd best head back to civilization before you get eaten by a bear or something."

And with that, they set off toward town and greater things.

The campaign finds Pan older and somewhat wiser. He has grown accustomed to the gifts unlocked by his mysterious patron. He is still left with more questions than answers. He'd like to learn the identity of his patron. Minos, a stalwart companion, has been unable to shed more light on his patron's intentions or identity even as he helps him grow in power.

Pan is also curious to learn more about the coven he has joined. He has not met any of the members again since the fateful night of his inception, nor has he received any directives from his mysterious patron.

Pan has done his best to focus on friends and avoid making enemies, though he is not well liked by all in his home town of Boccorit. The wizards there dislike his odd, unearned powers. Apparently ManWitch is an acquired taste. He does have one close friend in Boccorit, Tom Moserly, the town baker. They grew up next door to each other. His parents, Jan and Stan Oros, also live in Boccorit as wizards. They are not as harsh on him as the other wizards in the community.
Description
Background
Pelor's light has always shone brightly on Heimdalsgate's family tree. Shunning a family name his Sun-blessed family prefers to earn a title via service to the Church of Pelor. Although Sun-blessed himself, the white-haired and blue-eyed Heimdalsgate never showed an interest in joining the church. Instead, he spent most of his adult life attempting to earn the title of "Pelor's Gift to Women" while between the legs of half the women of Northern Kandor.

When Heimdalsgate's parents, Eluardian the Bountiful and Coquette the Healer, perished during a mission for the church, they left behind a substantial inheritance of 900 gold pieces should their son ever choose to abandon his beaver hunt. As a requirement to come into the money, Heimdalsgate would need to graduate from the church of Pelor's Myaamia University in his hometown of Shoreside where he was born 35 years ago. After imagining the opportunities and women that such wealth would bring him, Heimdalsgate quickly enrolled.

The graduation test consists of demonstrating fluency in the Celestial language, casting a divine spell, and channeling positive energy. It is usually only attempted after four years of study. To a truly devoted student with Heimdalsgate's pedigree the task should have been easy but Heimdalsgate was anything but a devoted student. He quickly made an enemy of Sun Father Cato whose responsibility it was to ensure that Myaamia's students weren't slipping off campus for a night in the taverns or bringing back local girls to the dormitories. In only a year and a half, Heimdalsgate had exhausted all academic probation and "Fresh Start" options and was facing expulsion. Using all of his grace and powers of diplomacy, Heimdalsgate was able to convince a panel of Sun Fathers to allow him to take the graduation exam in what would become remembered as his “Let’s Make a Deal” speech. Heimdalsgate was given 24 hours to pass the exam.

Heimdalsgate did not fear the divine spell component of the exam due to his Sun blessing. Even as a small child, he had been able to cast the spell of light with ease. Lacking the intelligence to decipher the Celestial language and the focus to channel positive energy he knew that he was proper fucked without divine intervention. And so he prayed.

And Pelor listened.

And Pelor blessed Heimdalsgate with the powers that he desired.

When morning came, Heimdalsgate discovered that his vision beyond 30 feet had been completely obscured but with so much distraction removed, he could now generate the focus necessary to channel positive energy. Similarly, when the stress of the graduation test began Heimdalsgate discovered that he could no longer speak or understand the Common language but that he could instead only speak and understand Celestial. When the test concluded, Heimdalsgate’s grasp of the Common language returned but his vision did not. Heimdalsgate had passed and earned his inheritance.

Upon graduation, it was customary for the Sun Fathers of the university to bestow a title upon the alum and offer them a place in the church structure as befit their particular capabilities and nature. Inquiries were made regarding Heimdalsgate’s rapid mastery of the Celestial language. Heimdalsgate revealed the truth regarding his prayer and the subsequent blessing of Pelor. Sun Father Cato decried that it was not a blessing but a curse and offered the title of “Heimdalsgate the Cursed”. The Sun Fathers argued for hours amongst themselves regarding the proper title and position for Heimdalsgate within the church. When they had finally paused to look up Heimdalsgate was gone.

Rejecting the rigid structure of the church but not his patron deity, Heimdalsgate now puts Pelor’s gifts to work within an adventuring party. He hopes to one day earn a title that he is proud to wear.
What the Earthquake Revealed
After recovering from being incapacitated by the spellweaver they had awoken, the party continued to investigate one of the other room's mysteries.

The party was able to identify the humanoid statue as depicting the tyrant Marco the Enslaver, who had conquered the world near entire and whose reign was disrupted a thousand years ago by Mygrandin Antaloose and companions.

When the party attempted to mend the magical mirror shards, the demonic statues issued forth bolts of arcane energy which shattered the mirror back into shards. After some effort, the party eventually succeeded in stopping the the statues from twarting their efforts long enough for the mirror to suck Jalfrezi into the Plane of Mirrors.

Beyond the Mirror
Jalfrezi spoke with the creatures, which the party would later identify as nerra, denizens of the Plane of Mirrors. From the conversation, Jalfrezi learned that the creatures had been in suspended animation since before Marco the Enslaver had conquered the world. They called Marco a soul speaker, not the usual "tyrant" or "enslaver" title he is usually granted. They revealed that they were waiting for the arrival of diramantine, so that they could finish the weapon they were working on. It was to be delivered to the Dawnlight Guard, a group from Tirathis who were fighting the soul speaker. The nerra were allied with spellweavers, and this particular group were working with a spellweaver named Shiootat, who was in the employ of Marco the Enslaver. Before it could be made clear why Shiootat was aiding his master's enemies, the lead nerra smiled evilly, as the conversation was just a stall tactic while waiting for Jalfrezi's mirror double to arrive.

The mirror double and the nerra attacked Jalfrezi, but he was able to fend them off, claim the weapon they were working on, and escape the Plane of Mirrors.

Back on the Prime
While Jalfrezi attended to his ordeal in the Plane of Mirrors, the party was beset by a small nerra invasion into the prime material. Through the mirror, waves of nerra attacked the party.

Once Jalfrezi returned from the Plane of Mirrors, the magic in the mirror faded and the waves ceased. The party overcame the attack and left behind what the earthquake revealed, making certain to seal the entrance to dissuade passerby.

Upon returning to the surface, the party encountered a dozen dead kobolds, who they surmised tried to mess with the spellweaver.

Sunkiss Festival
Upon returning to Redbridge, the party discovered that the Sunkiss Festival was underway. The festivities seemed to brighten the mood of the townsfolk, who were still recovering from the grief and anguish caused by the recent earthquake. The party partook in some of the attractions the festival had to offer.

Fortune Teller
Illia and Pan visited a fortune teller who was in town. Illia's fortune was told first, and the fortune teller revealed that she knew that Illia had sadness in the past. She noted that the sadness was in the present as well and that Illia would be able to face down the cause of her sadness soon. Illia asked if "he was in town" but the fortune teller stated that she spoke of no man, and only of closures of Illia's past.

When Pan's turn came, he held out his hand for blood to be taken. As he did so, Minos walked across his arm, paused a moment to prick Pan's hand with his barb to produce the blood the fortune teller desired. He then hopped over onto the fortune teller, resting upon her shoulder. As the drops of blood hit the collection bowl, smoke rose to fill the room. Illia and Pan began hallucinate and watched on as Minos, the scorpion, had a conversation with the fortune teller (where Minos insinuated that Pan was an idiot and that travelling with him is the greatest chore has ever faced). The fortune teller then spoke of things to Pan that very few people knew of concerning his quest for power and his association with The Three and their firey master. She shared with him that she could point him in the right direction of his quest, if he chose to see The Three again. Pan accepted, and the fortune teller told him that he should go to Garriton and seek out Ranita Isur. She stated that the rest of his fortune was hazy and revealed that she and Minos served the same patron.

Fripplesnacks Fizzlesticks' Challenge
Upon exiting the fortune teller's tent, Illia and Pan saw that the gnomish illusionist and merchant Fripplesnacks Fizzlesticks was holding some sort of challenge.

After meeting back up again, the party decided to participate in the challege, and they were presented with three puzzle rooms. While they were very successful with the final two rooms, the first room stumped them, causing them to eventually lose the challenge to a group of irritating teenagers who were able to pass all three rooms.

Despite the party's loss, Frippplesnacks was impressed by the wit of Jalfrezi and asked if it was his intention to study at Boccorit. Fripplesnacks is pleased that Jalfrezi was not going to do since he believed that Boccorit would ruin his wit with mundane memorization. He mentioned that having a mentor is the best way to improve your mastery of magic and suggested that Jalfrezi seek out Afi Heitani in Oclaut if he wanted to advance his power by doing more than just color spraying kobolds.

Additionally, Jalfrezi sold the mirrorshard light crossbow he brought back from the Plane of Mirrors to Fripplesnacks for 4,000GP.

Blacksmith's Puzzles
As Therthyra was walking around town taking care of a bit of shopping, she came across a competition where the participants endeavored to take apart blacksmith's puzzles. She noticed that a dwarf was taking part and whipping the humans at the game. As the dwarf won the round, he shouted, "Done! I finished it! I'm done! Next round!". The blacksmith's apprentice who was officiating the competition attempted to calm the dwarf with some ale and explain that he had to wait for the second and third place finishers before going to the next round. "I am not patient enough to wait! Just give me the next puzzle and time me!" the dwarf shouted. Only after further bribes of ale did he agree to wait.

He noticed Therthyra and loudly complained about the humans and inquired if she could give him a challenge at the puzzles. She stated that she had never done the game before, but the dwarf invited her to participate anyway. He shoved the human off the chair next to him and indicated to her to sit. As the round began, he introduced himself as Poldok Stonechewer and smiled, showing a stone clenched between his teeth. He noted that he was from the Cauldron Mountains and Cobalt Landing specifically. He expressed his frustration at being on the wrong side of the continent while Sasserine attempted to subjugate the dwarves of his home.

Therthyra won the event easily, and upon questioning her how she could be so good at the puzzles without ever having done them before, Poldok mentioned that he had a human friend in Boccorit named Slyth Rayash that she should look up the next time she makes a call upon that city. He instructed her to tell him that Poldok Stonechewer sent her and that it was about the puzzles. He warned her not to trust him however, especially if he asked her to do anything. He said she should definitely do whatever it is he asked of her, as the rewards could be very well worth the effort, but he again emphasized not to trust the guy.

Therthyra and Poldok grow bored of stomping the humans after a time and spend the rest of the day attempting to one up the other with dwarven culture.

Pelor Trivia
As Heimdalsgate walked through town contemplating the meaning of life, he came upon a triva compeition about the faith of Pelor. He successfully defeated all contenders and afterwards was approached by the questiongiver. Upon learning that Heimdalsgate was not a cleric, he noted that there was another oracle of Pelor in the area: Orack Reieeg based out of Streamwind. The questiongiver mentioned that Heimdalsgate should visit him if he ever goes so far north.

Archer's Tournament
Illia participated in an archer's tournament. Despite not doing well, she was approached by someone who recognized her potential. It was suggested that she visit the gray elf Issadar I'Hat in Dalist to further her studies in archery.

Blessing of the Sunkissed Fields
Sebastian Leolite, the head priest of the Temple of Sun's Dawn sought out Rickard Hill and asked if he and his friends would be willing to provide an escort as some of the clergy members travelled to area farms to conduct the Blessing of the Sunkissed Fields. There were reports that kobolds were seen in the area that they would be travelling in. Rickard was able to get the party to agree to the escort and they set off with three clergy members from the temple. One of them was Dunruk Sunaxe, church paladin and exiled dwarf from the Cauldron Mountains. While avoiding the judgemental eyes of Therthyra, he engaged Rickard in conversation. They spoke of his exile and what it is to be a paladin in the service of Pelor.

On the second day of the escort, the party was ambushed by kobolds. The party was able to fend off the attack.
What the Earthquake Revealed
The PC Party continued to explore the passages and caverns that were revealed by the recent earthquake.

KruthikLarvae.png
The party defeated the Kruthik motherbug and its spawn. Upon searching the cavern, they discovered various semi-precious and precious stones, as well as a slightly-glowing mirror shard.

Continuing on, the party encountered another large cavern, this one seemingly devoid of the steel-colored creatures.
This cavern is overflowing with fungus and rubble.
Jalfrezi discarded caution and ran about the room. He was beset by an animated fungus.
VioletFungusTentacles.png

After defeating the animated plant, the party continued on through the caverns, eventually coming to a dead end at a cave-in. After some discussions, the party decided to clear the cave-in as best they could. Avoiding a re-cave-in as they worked, they eventually discovered a door that led into a constructed chamber.

FightWithSpellweaverSkeletons.png

The party investigated the underground structure, encountering various rooms full of strange creatures, traps, and statues. Eventually, they came to a room containing a stone altar.

MessageToTheRegeneratingSpellweaver.png

The party discovered handles within each of the cauldrons and Rickard proceeded to pull each of the mechanisms and jam them into open positions. As the last one was stuck into place, the top half of the egg-shaped object blew off, forcing the party back and clouding their minds. A living version of the skeletons encountered earlier emerged from the remains of the object. It took a moment to read the script on the wall and quickly incapacitated the party while they were dazed. When they came to, the spellweaver was gone. They had been stripped of their magical items, but gems and treasures had been left in their place.
The Execution of Lia Garrion
The party arrives in Redbridge, ending their employment escorting of The Azure Caravan from Boccorit. As they enter the town, they are a drawn to a large crowd.

{{box|"Witnesses, attend me! The justice of Wee Jas is about to be served!" A man stands on a raised dais, a crowd arrayed before him. He is armored in dragon scales of a purple color and he rests a monstrous greatsword upon his shoulder. A woman, in tatters, is bound to a pole next to him. She has a mad look to her eyes.

"This is Lia Garrion! You know her crimes! Without regret, she admits to drowning her two children in the River Drearian! If there were any doubt that there is evil in this world, I present it to you in physical form on this day! This woman must be purged of her life!" This man is Mirrikh Tyrel, inquisitor of Wee Jas and justicar of Kandor. The man is usually without pity or mercy when meting out punishment, but he turns from the crowd to address the woman, speaking loud enough for the crowd to still hear.

"Lia Garrion, the Dark-eyed Lady has smiled upon you this day. She has permitted me to allow you to speak before she takes you into her embrace. Come, this is your final chance to show remorse for your crimes." The justicar cuts free her gag.

A stream of gibberish of no known language escapes from Lia's mouth. Suddenly, her eyes glow white and a forceful utterance escapes from her lips. A dozen azure bolts of arcane energy spring forth from her bound fingertips, striking Mirrikh directly in his chest. He nearly goes to one knee, but quickly recovers. In a single, smooth motion, his greatsword cleaves Lia's head from her body. The head bounces against the pole, but instead of turning end over end, the head maintains its orientation, staring intently into the crowd as it falls.}}

While the crowd watched on, Illia experienced something differently.

The frightened crowd disperses quickly, screaming about witchcraft, leaving you, the corpse of Lia Garrion, and Mirrikh Tyrel.}}

While the rest of the party rushes off to rescue trapped citizens and heal those in need, Pan Oros and Illia engage Mirrikh Tyrel in conversation. They ask him several questions about Lia Garrion's crime and her background, but he seems uninterested in answering them. He tries to leave town, but finds that his horse died during the earthquake. He checks into The Rusty Maid with plans to leave downriver towards Shoreside in the morning.

As the party helps the citizens of Redbridge, they speak with Sebastian Leolite, the head-priest of the Temple of Sun's Dawn, the sole temple in town. He details some further background on Lia Garrion that the justicar did not know. The party tries to convince him to approach Mirrikh Tyrel and ask for permission to cast divination spells on the body. Therthyra leads the discussion with Mirrikh Tyrel, but he refuses to turn over the body to the Pelorites.

With hopes of getting access to Lia Garrion's house, Rickard Hill and Illia discuss the situation with the constable, Tarn Gartharion. He's gruff at first, but he lightens up and shares various pieces of information with the party about Lia Garrion's background.

Sebastian Leolite leads a touching service in the evening for the 18 people who died as a result of the earthquake. After the service, Therthyra and Pan break into Lia Garrion's house, but find no further information.

Other party members meet back up with the constable, who allows the party inspect some of the effects that he seized from the Garrion residence. The only item of note was a flat stone statue of a six-armed humanoid.
The party decides to head towards the site in Illia's vision in the morning.

Illia rides her horse towards the wagon, but as she gets close, all of the assailants vanish.

{{box|A colorfully dressed gnome hops out of the back of the wagon, showing no outward sign that a moment ago he was under attack. His face lights up at the sight of the party.
"Why, hello!
Fripplesnacks Fizzlesticks proceeds to try to sell various items to the party, but fails to hawk any wares. ==Description==
He is about 6 feet tall, with a slight build, shoulder length black hair and green eyes.

Background
Jalfrezi was born 36 years ago in Boccorit to Gun and Shoe.

Jalfrezi's father, Gun, is a member of the dwarven adventuring party Laduguer's Bane. Being a human, not a dwarf, he was only admitted because of his skill in Illusion, as the party required a way to blend in with the deep dwarves they sought to conquer. They are due back soon from their latest journey downward, but they did not check in (with a Sending to the leader of Anvilrock) after the six month mark, as they normally do.

Jalfrezi's mother, Shoe, is the librarian of Boccorit. She has long had to deal with her assistant, the slutty Venhisa Selnos, luring in men by saying that she herself is the librarian, when she is merely the assistant to the librarian. Venhisa believes that Shoe doesn't know about her lewd fortress of priceless books, but Shoe is merely biding her time, building up evidence against her. She is unable to take any action yet, as Venhisa has managed to insinuate herself into the graces, and bed, of Shoe's superior.

Jalfrezi has spent his entire life in Boccorit, learning the arcane arts from his father and the other instructors there. He has only ever learned to socialize with academics, and his encounters with those of more common background tend to be terse and uncomfortable. He has sought knowledge instead of friends, and is not a particularly gregarious traveler.

Between his father's travels to the underdark, slaying the duergar scourge, Gun often regales Jalfrezi with stories of the wonders below the surface. When his father left on his most recent expedition with Laduguer's Bane, he inspired Jalfrezi to go out into the world and find a cause of his own. What that cause might be is, as yet, a mystery to him.
Northern Kandor lies in the northwestern
section of Loranon. It is a relatively newly
settled area that is populated mostly by races
that arrived in Loranon during the Age of Recovery. Though the citizens of the young
nation revere law and order, the chaos of the
vast tracts of countryside cause a balance
that the druids of the Kharadin Woods
appreciate. The area is rich in lumber and

Background
Vito Orcaleone was born into a poor family in 1281. He was the eldest of 11 children. Vito’s father was a laborer in the tiny village of Andoni in southern Daromir. The elder Orcaleone worked hard, but had a sever gambling problem. He owed money to a gang of local thugs, but one day was unable to pay due to the need to feed his family. He was found dead in a copse of trees outside of town in 1298, when Vito was only 17.

Vito immediately became the provider for his family. He disdained the simple work of his father, and vowed to never be beholden to any other man. He immediately began to plan his escape from Andoni. His opportunity came one year later, when he joined a traveling mercenary company. He left his family, promising to send money back when he made his way.
Over the next two years Vito learned to fight, and to be ruthless in his pursuits. He traveled with the company all over Daromir, participating in many battles. In 1300, he returned home. Vito found his home deserted. He learned that his mother had died the year before, and the rest of his family had gone north to Siciliano a year ago when their money ran out.

Vito traveled north, and spent the next month locating the remains of his family. He learned that his brothers had been killed by the local gang, and his sisters had been sold into slavery as prostitutes. His heart desired revenge. He located the leader of the gang, a fat old man too possessed by comforts. Posing as a hired sword, he killed the boss with a dagger he hid in his gauntlet. Victorious, he challenged any man to challenge him for control. When three more bodies lay on the floor in front of him, no other men stepped forward.

Vito hadn’t known what he had stepped into. The local gang he thought he had taken dominance over turned out to be part of a much larger network. Weeks later he was subjected to the rites of passage, and was fully accepted into the brotherhood.
Over the next years Vito consolidated his power, eventually taking control of the entire crime family. It was renamed and rebuilt in his image, and he assumed the title of Don Orcaleone. His methods have become more and more secretive, but his sway over the underworld became undeniable. His network swelled with warriors, thieves, and assassins.

In this year, Don Orcaleone’s power is undeniable, his plans unknown, but his aim is clear. He will become the most powerful man in Mezra.
The commentary is a little lengthy and is more recap than commentary.
Tomb of Anastasia
The player characters headed off right away to the Tomb of Anastasia. The tomb itself was infested with various undead creatures: zombies, skeletons, corpse rats, deathlocks, and a spellstitched spellweaver skeleton. The party discovered a secret way into the lower levels of the tomb which appeared to have some strange puzzle-key mechanism to unlock the way further in. Past the puzzle-key, the party found the magical items that they had come for as well as another sealed door. This door had the same kind of redish-pinkish mist surrounding it just like a strange incorporeal creature that they observed on the first floor of the tomb. Upon touching the mist barrier, a dirate spirit coalesced and attacked the party. After defeating the spirit, the room was filled with the voice of Chronos.
Return to Xalo
Necrotic Green Plumes
As the party re-entered Xalo, they noticed great necrotic green plumes roaring into the air north of the city. One of the locals determined that the plumes were probably in the area near the Greenwither Woods. The populace seemed a little anxious about the plumes but went about their work.

Offers of Employment
As the party entered the Buckets o' Beer tavern, Clarissa handed notes to the player characters. The notes offered invitations for employment with the Order of Libertas and the Order of Night's Breath. The notes did not give details on the jobs. The party was split on who they should work for.

Murder Most Foul
Upon entering Taliesin's office, Taliesin discovered his office ransacked. Additionally, Darrell's head and limbs were found scattered throughout the office.
