This morning I finally reached Dormantown. The defenses are being prepared for impending attack, as I had feared they would be. Two days travel prior I was in several skirmishes with wandering orcs.

I immediately inquired about the Heroes of Dormantown. I was told that some were in a “foolish” battle with orcs to the south. One was held at the temple with a dire sickness. One was simply MIA….

I decided to speak to the one in charge of defending the city, to see what I could do to help. There seemed little need to rush into a meeting with the Heroes if they were not immediately available. I asked for basic information on the state of the defenses and what was known about the coming attack. The Captain of the Guard, a Perc Graysky, suggested I go inquire about Daeron Elensar at the temple as he was needed elsewhere, and that later we could speak again.

The temple was preparing for heavy causalities. I was bemused that I had been led to the temple for the purpose of receiving information about Daeron, and then was hassled by an acolyte. She felt her business was more important than the few seconds it would take to tell me of the woman named Rosa who tended to Daeron.

I found Rosa holding a vampiric Daeron at bay. I was surprised at this turn of events. More distressing is that I was not informed of the spread of this disease in my homeland.

Rosa believed she could assist Daeron through the use of the healing properties of my forgotten flower. She asked me for it. I was surprised she knew such a subtle detail of our order. Our mysticisms are not the common knowledge of the world’s citizenry.

Her request caught me off guard, but I was able to assess quickly that it was a reasonable one. I know the flowers are plentiful enough at the monastery, but the thought of losing my tie with homeground was distressing. I handed her the flower and sent her good thoughts for her success.

There was no further need for me there, as the woman wished to work on some alchemy with the flower. I returned to the preparations for war, and to Perc Graysky. There I found several of the Heroes of Dormantown just returned from earnest battle!

My first impressions:

I will just have to monitor the situation with Daeron. My hope is that Fagan von Feld’s information that his vampirism has been cured is accurate. And it makes me pleased that I delivered this result.

Alan Bree seems to be of good heart. He wanted to use his talents to boost the morale of the defenders surrounding us. I took part in an entertaining spar with him as part of his efforts. He had suprising skill with his whip and my attempts to liven up the performance with my acrobatic tricks and fists of flurry were ineffective. I saw that the only way to win was to pin him to the ground.

Malic Citrate does not seem to live the Way. I am concerned. I have discovered that the group has been traveling with an evil artifact called the Forshantir, and Malic seems overly obsessed with the object. His reaction to being part of a massace of large numbers of orcs was one of enjoyment. I would agree that it is a glad thing to assist the world in this way. But Malic’s joy seemed focused on the bloodshed alone.

Punbert seems to spend his time with Alan exclusively. I do not understand his role and was not aware of his existence prior.

Daibhidh Toshich is very quiet. My understanding is that this is uncharacteristic. Perhaps the effort of long battle has taken its toll.

I learned that Wilhelm von Feld was left behind to his own devices from the orc encounter the group had just engaged in. The group seems unconcerned about his fate and is sure that he will return safely.

The one named Bisquick is missing. No one will speak of him.

As we were having our initial meetings, Fagan von Feld appeared after running a great distance to reach Dormantown. He had already been to the temple and he told us the news of Daeron. Now, this is a man who seems more like my mental picture of the “Heroes of Dormantown”. If there are aspects of my arrival that I feel need to divulge it would be to this gentleman.

In my experience, all people are both less and more than any reputation that precedes them.

I have worked some hours at this point on the perimeter defenses. It is time to get a night’s sleep.
